Tips to keep socks from slipping off your heel

Now when you know the reasons why your socks are slipping off the heels, you must understand that some hacks lie in altering the causes for the slippage. But besides that, too, I have some great working hacks for you:

1. You need to wear the right shoe with the right type of no-show socks

Yes, you need to choose the fabric and thickness of the no-show socks according to the type of footwear you are going to wear. For example:

      • For dress shoes: socks need to be made of nylon or silk with gripped lining to hold on. The thickness of the socks has to be thin and the fittings has to be tight.
      • For casual shoes: socks need to be made of cotton or polyester blend with silicone grips at the linings. The thickness of the socks has to be medium and the fittings has to be tight.
      • For running shoes: socks need to be made of cotton with rubber grips to hold on. The thickness of the socks has to be thin and the fittings has to be snug fit.

2. Choose the right size of the socks

With ankle length socks or regular socks, this might not be the issue. But with no-show socks you are definitely going to face the slippage problem if they are not of the correct size. Yes, correct sizing can solve nearly 90% of the problem.

If the socks are too small, they will not give a full coverage of the heel and will slip off easily gathering around the toes. With large sized socks, they will sag and slip off by rubbing against the walls of the shoes.

3. Choose socks with good quality elasticized linings

Socks that have a good quality elasticized lining are not likely to lose the elasticity around the opening after washing and with regular wear. I personally believe in investing in a good brand sock rather than going for the random ones.

4. Choose socks with anti-slip grips

Choose socks with anti-slip grips

Socks with rubberized or silicone linings at the inner edges will hold the grip more firmly than the regular elastics.

5. Choose socks with deep help pocket and 5-point stitching

Having these features in the socks will ensure that the socks will prevent slippage. But you will not find these features in every socks.

6. Apply puffy paints to the linings of the socks

These puffy paints when dry, act as a grip to hold the socks in place. Just use a brush to apply them at the inside of the opening of the socks so that they stick on to the feet and do not slip off.

7. Attach anti-slip traction tape on the lining of the socks

These traction tapes are awesome. Just cut them with scissors to the required length, take out the upper cover and paste them on either the inside of the lining of the socks to make them hold on to the feet or you can paste them on the outside so that they will hold on to the walls of the shoes. In both cases, you will be rid of the slippage of the socks.

8. Wash the socks in the right way

Rigorous washing loosens up the elastic and makes the silicone linings to wash away. Therefore, it is always better to wash socks with hands instead of putting them in the washer.

Also, use very mild detergents or better use just mild shampoo to wash socks with hands. Lastly, always wash the socks in the inside out position.

9. Dry the socks right

Putting the socks in the dryer or drying them directly under the sun affects the elastic or the silicone grips. Therefore, the right way to dry your socks is under the fan.

While drying too, keep the inside out position of the socks and this will affect the elasticized material much less.

10. Avoid moisturizing your feet before wearing socks

This is another reason that your socks are not holding in place. Of course, when you apply something slippery to your feet, the socks will not get the required grip and will slip off.

Why do my socks keep slipping off my heel?

Your no-show socks can slip off the heels because of the following reasons:

      • They do not have a tight grip at the cuffs (the opening of the socks)
      • They might be devoid of an elastic or silicone grip lining to hold on to
      • You might have selected the wrong material as silk or nylon ones can slip off easily
      • They will become loose over time and that is inevitable
      • You might have got the smaller or the larger size. The larger size will slip off easily and the smaller one will not cover up the heels
      • Your heels might be sweaty or you might have applied any foot cream that is causing the heels to become slippery and hence the socks are slipping off
