Chinos are definitely a great work pant that is comfortable and offers a stylish look of a dignified personality.

Well on that note construction workers require pants that are wrinkle and stain resistant, durable, made of comfortable fabric and fit a bit loose for allowing free movement of the legs and bending of the knees. And the good thing is chinos do offer all of the features.

But there are yet many things you need to know about chinos before you consider them as your construction work pants!

What are Chinos Pants?

Twill is basically a weave pattern with diagonal ribs. Now, chino material is a twill fabric that is made of 100% cotton. The most well known item made from the chino material is the trousers that are called chinos pants.

The history of chinos pants draws back to the 19th century and was first designed for the military people, especially for the British and the French military uniform. Gradually it gained popularity in the U.S. when the Spanish-American War soldiers returned from the Philippines wearing their twill weaved military trousers.

Later, it became popular as the most comfortable, durable camouflage pants for the soldiers and henceforth civilians too started to wear them.

Construction Worker’s Pants Requirements

1.) The material of the pants should be of stretch fabric:

The pants worn in the construction works must be of stretch fabric. This is important for the ease and comfort of wear. A pant made of stretch fabric will stick to your legs which will save from the dangers of the loose fitting clothes getting stuck to any machinery and causing hazards, but at the same time, it will allow you to easily bend your legs and move them in any position while at work.

2.) The weave pattern of the construction pants should be ripstop weave:

ripstop weave

Now a ripstop weave pattern is the one in which the fabric is such woven that it resists rips and tears in the pants in case they get scratches while at work. In this case, the fabric is actually interwoven with a crosshatch of nylon. The material of the fabric in this type of weave pattern should be cotton reinforced with nylon.

3.) The construction pants should have gussets sewn into them:

Gusset is actually a diamond shaped fabric that is sewn into the crotch of the pants. The main function of the gusset is to eliminate all of the seams coming together in a single spot and thus it improves comfort and allows free movement.

Having a knee protection in the construction pants is a very important feature to save you from knee injuries in case your job demands kneeling down while work.

4.) Construction pants should have utility/cargo pockets:

Construction pants require large pockets in order to hold the things while you are working. Pants without cargo or utility pockets will be a problem for the workers for they will have to worry about keeping their essential tools, cell phones and other belongings while working. Also, back pockets are as essential for the construction workers wherein they are to keep their measuring tools.

5.) Construction pants should also have utility loops:

Utility loop is very similar to that of belt loop but are usually placed on the upper portions of the legs that is the thigh areas and are stronger and larger than belt loops. These are essential for holding the hammers, pliers, etc.

6.) Fast drying fabrics:

Construction pants must be made with fabrics such as cotton and polyester blend that dry fast because water is an inevitable element to work with in construction.

7.) Wrinkle and stain resistant:

Construction work pants must be wrinkle-resistant as well as stain-resistant because working in mud and cement welcomes stains in the pants.
